Bmi Regional most punctual for third year running .... The carrier has earned the title of UK's most on time airline for the third year in a row. According to CAA data Bmi were the most punctual carrier based on 2007 flights. (18/08/08)
British Airways & American Airlines ......... Both airlines and Iberia have reached agreement to form a joint business. If approved in the USA & Europe, the three carriers will be able to form a closer working realtionship enhancing schedules, connections at US airports, and loyalty schemes. As all three carriers are oneworld alliance members lounge access is a benefit already enjoyed by each airline loyalty scheme members. The approval on both sides of the Atlantic may take some time. Improved facilities at London City ........ More space has been created for passengers departing from the airport. The main area has been extended to provide an additional 250 seats as well as the inevitable retail outlets, bars, & eating places. (08/08/08)
New online US visa requirement from Jan 2009 ........ UK Travellers to the US will have to use a new online travel authorisation process for travel to the US on or after 12 January next year. Under the new Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA) all travellers from countries currently part of the US visa waiver programme will be required to complete an online questionnaire no later than 72 hours prior to travel. An approved ESTA will be valid for 2 years for multiple trips although a new application will be required if a new passport is needed. Star Alliance lounge opens at Heathrow T1 ... The lounge is located on the international departures area near the flight connections desk. The new facility is available to First & Business passengers travelling on Star Alliance carriers & Star Alliance Gold Card holders travelling on any member airline. Bmi are a leading Star Alliance carrier & several other Star Alliance members are now operating from T1 including United Airlines & US Airways. (29/07/08)
Well known Kensington hotel closes for 6 months ..... The popular Jurys Hotel in Kensington is closing from 20 July for 6 months. A brand new hotel will open in January 2009 with all bedrooms & public areas completely refurbished. (14/07/08)
Bmi regional new connections from Edinburgh ....... The regional carrier is adding a third return flight from Edinburgh to Copenhagen from 21 July increasing the flights to 18 return services per week. This extra flight allows passengers to connect to a number of destinations operated by Star Alliance partners including Oslo, Helsinki, Stockholm & Tokyo. British Airways plan dedicated business check in at T5 .......The carrier is looking at creating a dedicated check in area at Terminal 5 for business class customers and in addittion will shortly open an additional business class lounge in Terminal 5 "B". (07/07/08)

Clyde Travel Management annual charity quiz raises over £2,000..... Our annual quiz night in aid of the Beatson Institute was held at the Glasgow Marriott on 17 June. We are delighted to have raised over £2,000 on the night making over £5,000 raised over the past 3 years. New check in facilities at Southampton .... The expanding airport has invested over £3 million in new check in & baggage facilities. This upgrade includes 3 additional new check in desks & 10 new Flybe self - service check in kiosks. (19/06/08)
Travelodge sending guests off to sleep happy ! ....... The budget hotel chain is apparantly trialing a form of "a room therapy" at a selection of their hotels. They are imbuing bedsheets with aromas that smell of "reminiscents" - scents that remind guests of happy & comforting memories. Top of the charts was the sea, followed by freshly cut grass, baby powder & even apple pie!. (17/06/08)
Terminal 5 getting there....... British Airways have reported that T5 is working well following the transfer of 15 additional long haul flights this week, including services to New York. The next major transfer of services to T5 is planned for 17 September. (12/06/08)
Rosyth to Zeebrugge ferry discontinued ............ Superfast Ferries are ceasing to operate the service from 14 September. 2 other ferry operators are said to be interested in taking up the route. (05/06/08)
British Airways announce direct Rio service ........ A new non-stop service will commence 3 times weekly from 26 October. Hold on most BA Terminal 5 moves ........... Only a handful of BA long haul flights are moving next month. Services to Abuja, Bangalore, Beijing, Cairo, Cape Town, Lagos, New York (JFK only) & Phoenix will all move to T5 on 05 June. All other services will remain at T4 until further notice. (22/05/08).
Bmi trial mobile phone technology ... The carrier are the first UK airline to trial a service for passengers wishing to receive their boarding pass via their mobile phone or PDA. The trial will last for 3 months & will be available on limited routes : Edinburgh – London (one way) Manchester – London (one way) & Belfast – London (return). Passengers checking in online will be given the option of printing their boarding pass or having it sent to their mobile phone or PDA (providing the mobile phone supports MMS or picture messaging). Euromanx cease trading ......... The airine which linked Isle Of Man with several English airports has ceased trading. Passengers who have booked flights with Euromanx are being offered seats on Flybe, in most cases. (09/05/08)
September increase on Edinburgh - London City ..... British Airways Cityflyer are increasing services from September. An increase to 10 return trips per weekday is planned representing 2 additional services per day. (02/05/08)
Flybe installs self - service kiosks ....... 64 electronic check in desks have been installed at airports across the UK. Initial figures indicate that over 40% of passengers are using the new machines. (02/05/08)
Complimentary nights in Dubai for First & Business passengers ..... Emirates have re introduced their offer of free rooms at at a choice of 4 top Dubai hotels. Passengers travelling in Business Class are entitled to two nights accomodation & First Class three nights. Travel must be taken between 01 May - 30 June 2008 & 01 August - 30 September 2008. Delta & Northwest to merge... A new airline will be created under the Delta name. The merger is to allow the new carrier to provide a more stable platform against the backdrop of rising fuel costs & intensive economic pressure. Further major mergers within the US are not ruled out (15/04/08)
British Airways delay further T5 moves ...... Plans to move the majority of long haul flights, planned for 30 April, have been delayed following discussions between British Airways & BAA. The transfer of these services, mainly from Terminal 4, will now begin in June. Clyde Travel Management passengers connecting on flights originally scheduled to arrive into T5 will be rebooked on an earlier/later flight to allow for the inter terminal transfer. (14/04/08)
British Airways extend upgrade offer ........... The offer of upgrading from Club World to First has been extended to all BA long haul routes, in addition BA have introduced a Euro Traveller to Club Europe upgrade promotion. A full fare must be purchased in the lower fare to qualify for the upgrade which can be taken in either direction. The upgrade promotion is valid on all flights until 13 July. (04/04/08)
Heathrow Hilton shuttle linking T5 ... There are plans to build a new hotel near T5 by 2010, however until then the Heathrow Hilton (Terminal 4) has announced that it will operate an exclusive shuttle service between the hotel & T5. The Hilton is the only hotel permitted to operate a dedicated service from the new terminal, other hotels are served via the Hotel Hoppa. (03/04/08)
Hand baggage restrictions lifted at Gatwick .... 2 pieces of hand baggage will now be permitted at Gatwick (& Jersey) (subject to individual airline policy). British Airways are among the airlines that allow 2 items of hand baggage but other carriers should be checked for their cabin bag rulings. (01/04/08)
Security change at Terminal 5 ........ It has been agreed by the BAA & airport authorities to review the use of fingerprint technology for UK domestic customers flying from Terminal 5 at Heathrow. As a result of this change passengers flying on UK routes will not have to provide their fingerprints although they will now have to have their photograph taken and matched at the boarding gate. Glasgow Airport creates drop off / pick up area .......... The airport has created a free covered zone opposite the main terminal as part of a £2m plan to upgrade passenger access following the failed terrorist attack last year. The new area is situated on the ground floor of the existing multi storey car park where visitors will be able to stay 10 minutes free of charge. The St Andrews Drive drop off / pick up facility is still available to motorists & can be used if the new zone is full or for a quicker exit from the airport area. (01/04/08)
